Battery energy storage plays an increasingly important role in the energy mix, as we shift from coal and gas-fired power stations to renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar.

Power generated from renewable energy is intermittent as you cannot guarantee sun or wind. Battery energy storage harnesses renewable energy, storing it when generation is high and demand is low. The stored energy can then be discharged back to the grid when electricity demand is high.
